Case Study | Baking Cakes
I grew up with little or no privilege and didn't have access to little things like cakes. I remember a bread product I loved because part of the bread (the back) was brown and seemed like a cake. The name of the bread was VAL-U Bread.
I craved cakes, and it didn't take long for cakes to become a top priority in my revenge list against poverty. Imagine growing up in Nylon, Matogbun, Ogun State, where you could only buy cakes as far as Ikeja, Lagos State—before Cakes and Creams moved into Berger, Lagos, which seemed a bit closer. The question is, could no one bake in the whole vicinity?
As I returned from service and settled in 2015, motivating and helping fresh graduates like myself start businesses in baking became a priority. I had been instrumental in the start-up of a couple of businesses that aimed to make parents partners in the marketplace in Matogbun.
However, I watched these beautiful souls listen to me, make some funds, and then I never heard from them again! The humanity of man...? Yes! However, the limitations of men also. Many of these businesses folded up. And this:

1. Bread or Cake – either is a product!
Baking Cakes is a Service. The journey of Income, Influence, and Impact begins when you know how to HELP with this! Reading this now, adapting to your Skill or Professionalism, do you know how to HELP with your profession/skill?

2. Cake is a product; Baking is a service – none is a business!
Do you understand business properly? Now that you can bake – and specifically can bake either bread, cakes, doughnuts with jam (smiling), chin-chin, or what have you, you need to learn how to build a trade platform and develop the business side of that trade platform.

3. You need to learn the biblical way to start – and leave that realm of being stuck due to little or no resources!
If you are in the phase like many others who believe they have some value to offer but do not have funding to start, this workshop is really for you!
What if I start with a war in your mind, telling you that you have been wrong all this while?
Money is an important growth factor in anything but is never a tool required or needed to start anything—not even not-for-profits!
And listen to this from the standpoint of a producer and not a consumer – In reality, there is no one that is coming to give money [FREE MONEY]. You will have to exchange value to get all the money you need for growth and development!
- A cake is a product that you make and sell or show, but a BAKER is what you are, not who you are. This speaks to impact!
What would being a baker mean to you? This isn’t for profit at all but impact! A cake business is the brand responsible for the making and marketing of the cake, making the cake a part of the brand product.
